Friends,
The Saturday after Thanksgiving is a special day where I (Stoffel, here) come from. Every year, there's a two-hour touch-football Turkey Bowl. Everyone knows where to gather, and it spans many social circles, so it's common to play with folks you've never met.
It's always followed by a trip to a local bar.
This year, I found myself at the bar sitting next to someone I vaguely remembered from the previous year's game. After introducing myself, I found out he worked at a hospital specializing in organ transplants.
After a while, I mentioned a company I was interested in: TransMedics -- whose machines keep organs alive for longer during the transplant process. I wondered aloud if the machines were really as special as advertised.
He provided lots of persuasive evidence, but it was actually the look on his face when I said, "TransMedics" that really convinced me. After hearing about how far ahead the company was, I believed it was investment worthy. I made it one of my largest holdings.
Since then, the stock has more than doubled.
But this story isn't about TransMedics. It's about the power of having a network where you can stress-test your ideas, find guidance, and learn from your mistakes. In this case, I just got lucky -- I was sitting next to an industry expert.
But I don't think counting on luck is the best long-term strategy.
Let's face it, investing is a lonely journey. Most of you reading this can probably relate to how quickly a friend's eyes glaze over when you mention "quarterly earnings reports", or "expanding gross margins", or "free cash flow growth."
We feel you. That's why we're so happy that you're here with us. You're part of the broader Long-Term Mindset tribe. And believe it or not, that tribe has expanded to include over 100,000 other long-term focused investors.
But as awesome as this is, we also want to encourage you to form your own investing tribe. The kind that you can meet with in-person, face-to-face, in the community where you live.
Relationships like that are worth their weight in gold.
Wishing you investing success,
